Vijaya Mulay, who is best known for her film, ‘
Ek Anek Aur Ekta
’, left for her heavenly abode on Sunday. Renowned filmmaker and film historian, she had won National Award for the film in the Best Education Film category.
Born on May 16, 1921, Vijaya founded the Delhi Film Society in 1959. She later became a joint secretary of the Federation of Film Societies. She also worked with Central Board of Film Certification in the early 1960s.
Centre for Educational technology had, in 1975, asked Vijaya to prepare educational films which were to be broadcast in four languages across 2400 villages.
She shared a great friendship with film personalities like
Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen who is reportedly said to have greatly influenced her career.
French filmmaker Louis Malle and Satyajit Ray helped Mulay in making her first film called ‘The Tidal Bore’ which was then selected by the government for Manheim Film Festival.
Vijaya Mulay was also honoured with the prestigious V Shantaram Award for her work in documentary filmmaking.
