Favourite Five: Director Madhur Bhandarkar lists his must-watch movies

Read On...
Director Madhur Bhandarkar has taken this break as an opportunity to sit back and enjoy other filmmakers’ work. The maker of films like Chandni Bar (2001), Page 3 (2003) and Fashion (2008) is watching a lot of movies at home. Ask him to list his favourites and he names Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa (1957), starring Waheeda Rahman as his all-time favourite. “The second film that I like is Vijay Anand’s Guide (1965) starring Dev Anand. I also enjoy watching Amar Akbar Anthony (the 1977 release starred Vinod Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor),” says Madhur. The director who last made Indu Sarkar in 2017, is also fond of international cinema. He picks Tom Hanks starrer Cast Away (2000) and Brad Pitt starrer Babel (2006) as his much liked movies. Talking about his love for cinema, Madhur says, “Having worked at a video cassette library for nearly five years, I got an opportunity to live cinema. I am a film buff, who makes films based on reality, but at the same time enjoys watching larger-than-life movies. I am the kinds who would whistle and clip at a multiplex watching a Rajinikanth starrer.”
