Fashion from Bollywood Holi songs: Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Silsila’ white kurta to Deepika Padukone's ‘Balam Pichkari’ pink kurti

Bollywood and Holi have always been the perfect pair and over the decades, the silver screen has given us some of the most iconic festival fashion moments in Indian pop culture. From Amitabh Bachchan's timeless white kurta in 'Silsila' to Deepika Padukone's show-stopping lehenga in 'Ram-Leela,' every Holi song tells a fashion story worth remembering. Whether it is a dreamy yellow saree or a casual checked shirt, Bollywood has always known exactly how to dress for the festival of colours. This is a celebration of those unforgettable looks the outfits that didn't just complement the song, but became the song.

'Rang Barse' — The white kurta rule was born here

There is something almost magical about the moment Amitabh Bachchan's commanding baritone rolls into 'Rang Barse Bheege Chunarwali' the room stops, and suddenly, Holi truly begins. In Yash Chopra's 'Silsila' (1981), Big B showed up in a loose, flowing white kurta-pajama, hair slightly dishevelled, looking every bit the festive hero without even trying. The simplicity of that white kurta against a sea of flying gulal created one of Bollywood's most visually stunning Holi moments effortless, genuine, and completely unforgettable. That one look quietly wrote the golden rule of Holi fashion that Bollywood still swears by keep it simple, wear white, and let the colours do the talking.

'Lahu Munh Lag Gaya' — When fashion meets festivity

Bollywood's most fun couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, are clearly made for each other and 'Lahu Munh Lag Gaya' from 'Ram-Leela' (2013) is the proof. Deepika dazzled in a gorgeous black, white and red lehenga with chandbalis framing her face, playing ras garba as clouds of pink, purple and blue hues exploded around her like the universe was celebrating too. Ranveer couldn't take his eyes off her honestly, nobody could because the combination of that stunning outfit, those flying colours, and Deepika's irresistible energy made the whole song feel like one giant burst of joy. Bhansali gave us Holi at its most magical, most colourful, and most loveable best.

'Balam Pichkari' — When holi got young

"Kaun Chashmiiiish?" and just like that, the shyest girl at the party became the most unforgettable one. Deepika Padukone's orange-red shirt tied at the waist with white denim shorts in 'Balam Pichkari' from 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' (2013) threw every ethnic Holi rulebook straight out the window and honestly, good riddance. Ranbir Kapoor as the forever cool Bunny showed up in a checked shirt, faded denims, and a bandana, looking like someone who never has to try but always gets it right. Together, their outfits captured something that no lehenga or sherwani ever could the pure, messy, laugh-out-loud joy of being young, carefree, and completely lost in colour.

5/7

'Soni Soni' — Yellow that needed no colour

Some people walk into a room and become the celebration Aishwarya Rai in 'Soni Soni' from 'Mohabbatein' (2000) was exactly that. Dressed in a dreamy butter-yellow saree that glowed like warm afternoon sunshine, she didn't need a single drop of gulal to feel festive the colour did all the talking on its own. Aishwarya's look was soft, luminous, and breathtakingly elegant the kind of effortless beauty that stays with you long after the song ends. She proved that Holi fashion isn't always about going bold and bright sometimes the most stunning look in the room is the simplest one.

6/7

'Badri Ki Dulhania' — The Lehenga That Lit Up

"Bura na mano, Holi Hai!" if any song lives and breathes this line, it is 'Badri Ki Dulhania' from 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania' (2017). Alia Bhatt in a gorgeous bright yellow, mirror-embellished lehenga is pure sunshine twirling, laughing, and dancing like nobody is watching while the whole world wishes they were invited to this party. Varun Dhawan matches her energy beat for beat, and together they have so much fun on screen that you cannot help but smile like an idiot watching them. It is loud, it is colourful, it is chaotic and it is absolutely everything Holi should be.

7/7

'Go Pagal' — The beautiful mess

If Holi had a mascot, it would be the cast of 'Go Pagal' from 'Jolly LLB 2' (2017) because nobody sold the pure madness of the festival quite like them. Akshay Kumar showed up in a casual button-down white shirt, jeans, and sneakers effortlessly cool without even trying. Huma Qureshi matched that energy perfectly in a simple white kurta and flowy long skirt, keeping it easy, breezy, and completely Holi-ready. White was the smartest choice because by the end of the song it was every colour imaginable, and honestly that was the whole plan all along.
