Farhan impresses Deepika
Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are now doing what they have always wanted to do — introduce fresh talent in the industry. Their film Karthik Calling Karthik, which releases today, also happens to be their company’s first co-production.
Excel Entertainment has co-produced the film along with Amit Chandrra and Vijay Lalwani’s Magic Beans. Amit and Vijay, both first-time producers, are glad to be in good company.

Vijay, who also makes his debut as a director with the film, says, “Matching sensibilities is the biggest reason we are co-producing this film together. No one values good content like Excel. Farhan and Ritesh are humble and sensible enough to acknowledge that eventually ‘content is king’, and we endorse the same values.”
This is not the first time Farhan and Ritesh have opted to put their faith in young talent. They had earlier launched first-time directors like Reema Kagti, who directed Honeymoon Travels Pvt LTD, and Abhishek Kapoor of Rock On fame. Farhan, who has also acted and produced sister Zoya’s directorial debut Luck By Chance, says, “I’ve always felt that it is important for the industry that new creative talent be introduced. Vijay impressed me with his individualist style of writing and loyalty to the central idea of the script.” Ritesh points out that today they are in a position to offer a platform to young and new filmmakers like Amit and Vijay to freely make ideas they believe in and bring their stories to a visually-engaging medium.
Their effort seems to have paid off as the film has generated a lot of buzz even before its release. Amit says, “We bring varied expertise to the table, which has helped the buzz around the film become so huge, and it has shaped up into a product that both the teams are proud of!” Deepika Padukone, who romances Farhan in Karthik Calling Karthik, is thoroughly impressed with the producers. “They are professionals and know how to deliver,” she says.
