Farhan Akhtar recently opened up about his complex feelings regarding his father, Javed Akhtar's marriage to acclaimed actress Shabana Azmi. This revelation came during the docuseries ‘Angry Young Men,’ which reflects on the influential screenwriters of the 1970s Hindi cinema, particularly Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan. The series not only explores their professional journeys but also delves into their personal lives, revealing candid emotions and long-held sentiments.
In the series, Farhan Akhtar shared that he experienced a sense of betrayal when his father remarried after his divorce from Honey Irani. He recalled a tumultuous phase of anger and confusion, stating, “There was a phase when I was angry with him, I felt betrayed by him. There were all those very normal emotions that I did go through as a child growing up.”

Farhan Akhtar emphasized that it took considerable time for him to adjust to this new family dynamic. He acknowledged the significant role Shabana Azmi played in this transition, stating, “It took time to go back to normal with my dad. Shabana played a big part in creating that normalcy.”

Javed Akhtar's marriage to Honey Irani in 1972 ended in divorce in 1985, a separation that undoubtedly impacted Farhan and his siblings. Following this, Javed married Shabana Azmi, a union that has been celebrated in the public eye but also brought personal challenges for Farhan. This transition period was marked by emotional struggles as Farhan navigated his feelings of loyalty to his mother and acceptance of his father's new life.
In another poignant moment from the docuseries, Javed Akhtar reflected on his past marriage to Honey Irani, expressing remorse and acknowledging his share of the responsibility for its failure. He stated, “Honey is one person in the world, towards whom I feel guilty. And she is the only person. Sixty-seventy percent responsibility lies on my shoulders, for the failure of that marriage.”

‘Angry Young Men’ serves as a rich tapestry of nostalgia and emotional exploration, featuring various celebrities sharing their personal stories and insights.
