Exclusive! ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ song ‘Ghamand Kar’: Composer duo Sachet-Parampara opens up about creating the theme song for the Ajay Devgn starrer

Ajay Devgn’s most anticipated period drama ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ has been making all the right noises ever since the trailer release. After releasing a few tracks from the movie like, ‘Maay Bhavani’ and ‘Shankara Re Shankara’, the makers unveiled the most awaited track from the film today.
Titled, ‘Ghamand Kar’, the song was etched in the minds of the audience ever since a piece of the same was heard in the background of a few scenes in the trailer of the movie.Composer duos Sachet Tandon and Parampara Thakur, the people behind the theme song exclusively opened up about the same with ETimes. Excerpts from the interview:
After ‘Bekhayali’ and 'Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas', your song ‘Ghamand Kar’ caught all the attention in the trailer itself.
It’s an overwhelming feeling for us. If you make songs according to the script and narration, you tend to understand the characters and emotions well. So the situations in the film helped us to create melodies and correct sound for a song. When it comes together with the actors on screen, it leaves a greater impact.
Tell us something about the song.
It is our first period-drama film and very happy to become a part of it. We knew we had to deliver something really strong and different. So we thought of creating a haunting melody for the situation. It, fortunately, became the theme for Ajay Devgn sir's character Tanhaji. Also, it is the story of Maratha Warriors so we had to keep the background and the instrumentation in mind to have the perfect balance of melody and contemporary sounds.
Is it challenging to be composing for a genre of this kind? How different it is from other genres?
Yes, it was challenging and quite interesting. We like taking up challenges. It’s not a regular sad song or a romantic song or a club song. We had to make a war cry. We had an interesting brief from the makers before we could start composing. It was a totally new genre for us. So we had a gala time making the music for it.
Directed by Om Raut, ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ also stars Kajol and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. The movie will hit the theatres on January 10, 2020. It will be locking horns with filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’ starring Deepika Padukone at the box-office.
