Wednesday brought much cheer to Mumbaikars as it heralded the onset of monsoon with its first showers. You can see the change in the air as people have been sharing their favourite rain songs on social media or on the radio. Rains are often synonymous with music and romance and Bollywood would have been a shade less without the soulful melodies belted out by musicians and singers, who've inspired by it. Pyaar Hua Iqraar HuaFilm: Shree 420 (1955)

Raj Kapoor and Nargis Dutt in Shree 420
The song is beautifully picturised on Raj Kapoor and Nargis Dutt, who can be seen sharing an umbrella on a rainy evening. A classic monsoon melody, the song was composed by music composers Shankar - Jaikishan, written by Shailendra and sung by Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar. The scene also has Raj Kapoor's children - Randhir, Ritu and Rishi - making an appearance in an iconic moment in the song. It's the part where Nargis sings, 'Main na rahoongi, tum na rahoge, phir bhi rahengi nishaaniyaan', pointing at the three kids wearing raincoats and walking on the street in the downpour.

Bheegi Bheegi Raaton MeinFilm: Ajnabee (1974)

The song makes you want to dance, specially when it rains. Picturised on 70s superstar Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman, it was composed by RD Burman and sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

Picturised on Sanjay Dutt and Nagma, the song was composed by Channi Singh and sung by Udit Narayan and Sapna Mukherjee. It's nice monsoon song, which showcased an amazing chemistry between Sanjay, who is completely drenched in the rains, and Nagma.

Tu Kab Ye JaanegiMusic album: Kismat (1998)

Sonu Nigam
Picturised on Sonu Nigam and Bipasha Basu, the song was composed and written by Nigam and it is also his first dance sequence in the rain. The song became a chart-buster and it also showed a very young Sonu performing in the single.
Dekho NaFilm: Fanaa (2006)

Aamir Khan and Kajol in Fanaa
Sonu is part of this song as its lead singer along with Sunidhi Chauhan. Written by Prasoon Joshi and composed by Jatin-Lalit, Dekho Na has been picturised on Aamir Khan and Kajol, who displayed a sizzling chemistry in this soulful and romantic song; it has easily become one of the most popular monsoon songs.
