said, "I am so happy about this. I got to know yesterday. The excitement is that the name of the award is Lata Mangeshkar. It's a big thing in itself. I am thankful to all the people for the wishes."

The music director, who was elated with his win, remembered his time with the living legend and said, "I was her driver and cook too. (laughs) Post recording sessions, I used to cook for her and then drop her off to her house. I am really lucky to have had her blessings and love."

On being asked if Lata Mangeshkar had called to congratulate him on the recognition, he said, "Not yet but she will. I know it."

Uttam won much critical acclaim when he scored for Chandra Prakash Dwivedi's 2003 partition drama 'Pinjar', in which he collaborated with the Wadali Brothers. It is still considered to be his finest work as a composer.

We would really like to congratulate Mr. Uttam Singh for this great achievement.
