Esha Deol: My dad is a vegetarian when he is with my mother
Esha Deol comes from a diverse cultural heritage. Her father, Dharmendra, is Punjabi, while her mother, Hema Malini, is a South Indian. When it comes to her culinary preferences, Esha says her choices are largely influenced by her mother’s side. She reveals, “I grew up eating south Indian food. My staple diet is idli, sambar and dosa-chutney. I also enjoy eating curd rice. Now even my daughters enjoy that. They ask our cook to make idli sambar and chutney at least thrice a week.”
Esha is a strong advocate of vegetarianism. The actress recently joined hands with Sante Spa Cuisine that promotes healthy vegetarian food and during the interaction, she also spoke about her father’s dietary habits when he is around her mother. She shared, “My dad really respects my mom’s choices, so whenever he is with her, he is a vegetarian. When we travel somewhere, we see him eat some non-veg dish. And when he does that, he goes to another room to have it as mom can’t handle the smell. I have seen them on outdoor shoots and I have witnessed these cute moments.”
Esha also mentioned that her mother has made a recent shift in her eating habits. “Today, there is a lot of awareness about food and diets. Earlier she didn’t follow anything, but today she only eats gluten-free food.”
