Ektaa Kapoor recalls crying during ‘Laila Majnu’ narration: ‘I had to stop the script’
Ektaa Kapoor has backed countless emotional stories over the years. Yet only a few narrations have truly shaken her. Recently, she revisited one such moment from the 2018 romantic tragedy 'Laila Majnu;. Ektaa revealed that the film’s narration moved her so deeply that she broke down in tears, leaving the director stunned and forcing the session to pause.

When a narration became overwhelming

Ektaa Kapoor recalled hearing the script from director Sajid Ali. As the story unfolded, the emotions took over. She cried so intensely that the narration had to be stopped, leaving Sajid visibly shocked. Ektaa needed a few minutes to regain her composure.Reflecting on the moment, she shared on Instagram, “So there are only three times in a narration I have cried—once in the first episode of Kyunki, when Mihir remembers Baa’s birthday; second, during The Dirty Picture narration when Silk dies; and third, this scene. I had to stop the narration because I cried so much. Sajid Ali was shocked. I needed five minutes to continue!!!! (sic)” The honesty struck a chord with fans.

A scene that still hits hard

Ektaa Kapoor also described the powerful scene that broke her down, explaining how love and loss collided in that moment. She wrote, “The scene is still as amazing as it was when I first heard it. You imagine missing your loved one so deeply that when you finally see them, you faint.
Laila had been told millions of times that Qais was having a blast in London, but when she sees a thin, scrawny version of the man she loved, she doesn’t need anyone’s lies. She realises his soul missed her the way hers did.” Rooted in emotional truth, the scene continues to resonate years later.

The film and its lasting impact

'Laila Majnu' starred Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles. The film retold the legendary Arabic love story of Layla and Majnun in a contemporary setting, with Triptii playing Laila and Avinash portraying Qais Bhatt.
