Sugandha Garg has taken the slow and steady road to Bollywood. The actress who played Shaleen – Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza’s friend in the hit Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, did a lot of singing and dancing during her college days.Talking about her alma mater, she says, “I studied in Maitreyi College and never attended my classes... My attendance was really bad. I used to spend eight hours singing and dancing in girls common room (GCR).
She sure misses her college, but what this Economics (Hons) student misses most are her fun days at the GCR, “I was in the college choreography team, and spent a lot of time playing the guitar and singing in that room.
God! the common room was our matrabhoomi. My friends and I used to dance on songs like Sex Bomb. We were a group of thick friends who spent a lot of time dancing to groovy numbers together,” she says.
When we got talking about her favourite hangouts during her college days, she says, “I used to hang out in Chanakya, which has closed down now. I also used to spend a lot of time at the café outside Jesus And Mary College with my friends. It was great fun visiting the markets at Greater Kailash and Vasant Vihar.
But then, with so many extra cirricular activities, when did she find time to study? “I used to study just one month before the exam. Our teachers didn’t really say anything, they only wanted us to get good marks. The camaraderie between teachers and students was amazing,” says Sugandha.
With DU gearing up to welcome the fuchchas, how can we not talk about ragging. So, when we ask her about her take on the subject she was not too okay with the idea of ragging and sums up, “Ragging is ridiculous!
College days come with their share crushes, but with Sugandha crushes didn’t happen while she studied in DU, as she explains, “I always fell for men older than me. So I didn’t really have such college crushes.
