Bollywood has time and again depicted
Diwali - the most widely celebrated festival in our country - in all its splendour and glory - with gorgeous traditional ensembles, lavish sets, spectacular fireworks and earthen
diyas in festive songs and scenes.

Mohabbatein (2000) The song '
Pairon mein bandhan hai' is set on a Diwali night and has a larger significance to the story. It is instrumental in the films climax. The three young love stories that Raj Aryan (Shah Rukh Khan) plays cupid to, culminate into full-fledged relationships in the course of this upbeat dance track.
Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai (2001) In this film,Diwali becomes the reason for Tusshar to catch a glimpse of
Kareena Kapoor Khan. Dressed in a pristine white
salwar kameez, she gets down from a car, lights a cracker and celebrates the festival with children. It is love at first sight for Tusshar, who is mesmerised by her beauty and innocence from the word go.
Joh Jeeta Woh Sikander (1992) Diwali makes a fleeting appearance in a song where a a young
Aamir Khan and his buddies, including Ayesha Jhulka, celebrate it, complete with fire crackers and
desi costumes. The prankster Aamir gets his brother (Mamik Singh) to profess his love to his childhood crush.
Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) Coming close on heels of the protagonist Raju's (Shah Rukh Khan) job offer, the Diwali sequence in this film is a happy song and dance number. The whole basti gets together to dance and celebrate together in its true spirit, with Jai (
Nana Patekar) playing musician.
Vaastav (1999) In Sanjay Manjrekar's gritty film, the festival is an important sequence. As protagonist
Sanjay Dutt returns to celebrate with the people of his
chawl after becoming a goon flush with cash, he turned out by his mother who won't stand a criminal in her home.
Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham (2003) The title track of the film marks the entry of Shah Rukh Khan and the family's elder son Rahul who he plays. The title song uses Diwali as its setting to set the tone of the family drama and establishes the relationship between Rahul and his mother Nandini (
Jaya Bachchan), dresses in ivory.
Taare Zameen Par (2007) It was a blue diwali for Darsheel Safary who played the dyslexic Ishaan in this film. The young boy is being sent off to boarding school after Diwali and the festive sequence in this movie is one of its most heartbreaking parts. Though gloomy, the cheerful festive back-drop is contrary to Ishaan's mood, which the scene highlights.
Aisha (2010) Sonam Kapor draped in a gold and sheer saree and a chic
maang teeka on her forehead caught our attention in the fashionable chick flick's Diwali sequence, though it is Lisa Haydon's beautiful classical singing that is most memorable. Set in South Delhi's elite circles, the scene shows a glimpse of tastefully done bright interiors, luxurious upholstery, pretty electric lights and appetising sweets and savouries that are seen in a plush North Indian home.
