Director Sajid Ali recently revealed an unexpected outcome stemming from a minor oversight during the production of 'Laila Majnu'. The 2018 romantic drama, which initially struggled at the box office but later achieved cult classic status, has had a peculiar consequence due to an error involving a phone number shown in the film.
In one scene, Avinash Tiwary’s character, Qais Bhatt, shares his phone number with Laila, portrayed by Triptii Dimri. However, during the production, the crucial step of blurring the number for privacy was overlooked. Consequently, the real phone number displayed on the screen actually belonged to the film's assistant director, who has since become a celebrity manager.
In a recent interview with Mirchi Plus, Sajid Ali shared that the assistant director’s phone number was mistakenly shown, leading to an inundation of calls and messages from enthusiastic fans who believed it was Qais’s real number. This unintentional error has had a lasting impact on the assistant director’s life. Ali explained, “We forgot to censor the number due to an oversight.
And that poor guy's life is miserable to date. He can't even change the number. And since it has been re-released, he is getting messages after messages. He keeps sending snapshots to me.”
The film, initially labeled a box office flop, was re-released on August 9th due to growing audience demand. Despite its rocky start,
Laila Majnu has now achieved cult status.
