Director Aditya Suhas Jambhale defends 'Article 370' against propaganda allegations

National Award-winning director Aditya Suhas Jambhale, basking in the success of his directorial venture 'Article 370,' remains unfazed by accusations of pro-government propaganda, asserting that the Indian audience cannot be misled.

In an interview with Zoom, Jambhale shares insights into the film's success, the challenges faced during production, and his belief in the intelligence of the Indian viewers.


The director expresses his gratitude for the overwhelming response to 'Article 370,' describing the emotional connection with the audience witnessed in theaters. Reflecting on his debut's journey from theatrical release to positive acclaim, Jambhale acknowledges that the film's success aligns with the vision he held while creating it.

He revealed that the extensive research for the film took around five months, involving collaboration with investigative journalists and other sources to gather information not in the public domain. Jambhale emphasized that the narrative was pieced together by connecting various events, dates, and significant points, turning the filmmaking team into investigative journalists themselves.

Anticipating criticism due to the film's sensitive political subject matter, Jambhale stated that he was fully aware of potential allegations from the day he began working on 'Article 370.' However, he emphasizes that he no longer dwells on such concerns. The director firmly believes in the intelligence of the Indian audience, asserting that attempts to fool them will prove futile, as they form opinions based on what they see and feel.

Jambhale further shared his belief that Kashmir has always been an integral part of India. He lauds the mission to revoke Article 370 as one of the most intelligent and successful endeavors in Indian history. Jambhale's emotional connection to this event drove him to create the film with the intention of projecting what he believes to be the truth.

Addressing the accusations of propaganda, he emphasized that it is up to the film and its craft to counter such claims. Jambhale asserts that his primary focus is the satisfaction of being a filmmaker, remaining true to his vision. He expresses happiness, humility, and immense gratitude for the audience's emotional reactions to the film in theaters.

On casting decisions, Jambhale revealed that he, along with producer Aditya Dhar, casting director Mukesh Chhabra, and writer Monal Thakkar, collectively made choices. Despite the time constraints, they managed to finalize the entire cast in a month. The director expresses gratitude to his producers Aditya and Lokesh Dhar for believing in 'Article 370' and supporting the entire crew.


As for his next project, titled 'Baramulla,' Jambhale shares that it is a supernatural action thriller set in Kashmir, featuring Manav Kaul and Bhasha Sumbli in lead roles. The film promises a unique blend of horror, action, drama, and supernatural elements.
