BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’ the mythological magnum opus has etched a place for itself in the history of entertainment. The trivia related to the making of ‘Mahabharat’ has time and again astonished people. For instance, did you know around 15,000 people applied for the audition for the show for different roles in the show?
In the documentary ‘Mahabharat Ki Mahabharat: The Making of BR Chopra's Mahabharat,’ Ravi Chopra revealed that 1500 out of 15000 were shortlisted for the various characters and called down for video screentests. Six women were being considered for the role of ‘Draupadi’ - including Juhi Chawla, Roopa Ganguly, and Ramya Krishnan.
In an old interview, Arjun aka Firoz Khan shared that initially he had rehearsed his lines with Juhi Chawla. She was the one who was nearly finalized to play Draupadi. However, Juhi decided to opt out of 'Mahabharat' as she got the lead role in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ opposite Aamir Khan. After Juhi turned down the character, Roopa Ganguly was chosen for her correct Hindi diction. The actress was highly loved and lauded for her work in the epic saga.
Recently, Roopa Ganguly once again found herself in the headlines; however, not for the right reasons. The former BJP MP was arrested by Kolkata Police during a protest outside a police station.
She was taken into custody and brought to the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar on the night of October 2. Roopa was advocating for the release of fellow party member Rubi Das, detained in connection with a road accident. Reports suggest that Ganguly obstructed the police duties, leading to the arrest.
