Actor Rahul Roy's rise to stardom with the 1990 blockbuster 'Aashiqui' was one of the milestones in his career as an actor and performer. However, his career took an unexpected turn with back-to-back box office failures, and the actor later suffered a brain stroke amidst these setbacks.

Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, 'Aashiqui' also featured newcomer Anu Aggarwal alongside Rahul. Together, they created an iconic on-screen chemistry that cemented their status as a "superhit jodi." Rahul’s life transformed overnight as the film became a massive success, and his debut in Bollywood gained widespread recognition.




In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rahul had shared how extraordinary those early days were, revealing that he signed an astounding 47 films in just 11 days after Aashiqui’s success. “I got nothing for six months,” he recalled, highlighting the whirlwind start to his career. Despite earning a modest Rs 30,000 for his debut film, it seemed the actor’s future in Bollywood was bright. However, the journey that followed wasn’t as smooth as it initially appeared.

Though audiences appreciated Rahul in films like 'Majhdhaar', 'Dilwale Kabhi Na Hare', 'Pyar Ka Saaya', 'Junoon', and 'Jaanam', his subsequent projects failed to replicate the success of 'Aashiqui'. Movies such as 'Ghazab Tamasha', 'Sapne Sajan Ke', and 'Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee' struggled at the box office, leaving Rahul’s career in flux.

Nevertheless, the young actor’s passion for acting never wavered. He explored television as a medium, featuring in shows like 'Karishma: The Miracles of Destiny' and 'Kaise Kahoon', which allowed him to refine his craft. A major turning point came in 2006 when he participated in and won a season of the reality show 'Bigg Boss'.

His personal life also saw its share of ups and downs. He married fashion model Rajlakshmi Khanvilkar in 2000, but the couple divorced in 2014. Professionally, his struggles were compounded by health setbacks. In 2020, Rahul suffered a stroke and a heart attack, leading to extensive medical treatment, including heart and brain angiography. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor shared that after becoming financially strained due to medical bills, he was struggling with debts. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan stepped in and helped him clear his debts during this challenging period.
