The tragic demise of
Malaika Arora's father, Anil Mehta, has come as a shock for the family. It looks like the Arora family had a reunion of sorts on Tuesday night, as Amrita and Malaika, were seen exiting their parents' residence Ayesha Manor. The next day, before his tragic demise, Anil Arora apparently spoke to his younger daughter.
A police source told ETimes, "The call details are indicative of the fact that he did call Amrita Arora, She is closer to his father and was quite his favorite." The Mumbai Police confirmed that Anil Mehta stayed on the sixth floor of the building our source added, "Anil Mehta lived on the same floor as Joyce, his ex-wife and his routine would be to borrow the morning news paper from her and then he would sit in his balcony and read it. The same didn't happen today and Joyce only saw his slippers and noticed that he wasn't there."
While the investigation is ongoing, DCP Crime Branch Raj Tilak Roshan had addressed the media outside Malaika's family residence and stated, "Body of one Anil Mehta (62) was found. He resided on the 6th floor. We are carrying out further investigation and our team is here. We are investigating all angles in detail. Our teams are here, forensic teams are here as well...Body is being taken for postmortem. We are investigating everything in detail...Prima facie it seems to be suicide, we are conducting further investigation."
Malaika Arora's parents, Anil Mehta and Joyce Polycarp had divorced when she was 11 years old. The Arora sisters were raised by their mother, who relocated to Thane from Chembur post the separation. However, they now lived on the same floor, while Malaika stayed at a separate apartment in Bandra.
Close friends of Malaika Arora soon gathered at her residence in this difficult hour. Arjun Kapoor, Salim Khan, Salma Khan, Helen, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Sohail Khan, Seema Sajdeh, Kim Sharma, Ritesh Sidhwani and many others arrived at Ayesha Manor to offer condolences.
