Dibyendu Bhattacharya, an alumnus of the National School of Drama, left Delhi 23 years ago. But his deep connection with the institution remains strong. During his recent visit to Delhi, the Black Friday actor visited NSD and the Mandi House area to relive his time in the city. “I spent the golden years of my youth here. I have learnt so much here, not just acting. I learnt about culture, love, life, art, craft and politics because NSD mein ek lifestyle seekhaya jaata hai. I learnt how to rationalise things in NSD. After NSD (1994-97), I worked at NSD’s Repertory Company as an actor (1997-2000). Wa- han jaake maine jo sab zindagi bhar seekha, practice kiya. Bahut achha lgata hai NSD aana. Jab bhi Delhi mein shooting karne ka mauka milta hai, main chhod- hta nahi hoon,” said the actor, who has done several OTT shows like Maharani, Rocket Boys and Mirzapur.

‘DELHI KI EK ALAG KHUSHBOO HAI’
For Dibyendu, Delhi means going back to NSD. “NSD aata hoon, thodi der ghoom ke chala jata hoon,” he said, adding,“Ek hawa mein difference hai, har shehar ki ek khushboo aur hawa hoti hai toh Delhi ki ek alag khushboo hai. Mandi House ki alag khushboo hai. Whatever I am today, NSD is the major contributor to that. Tabhi mauka milte hi aajata hoon. We are actors, humko nostalgia mein jeene ki aadat hai.”

Talking about Delhi's food, he shared, "Tedhi handi wale chole-kulche khana, Nathu’s jaana, ITO mein parantha khane jaana, Refugee Market mein chicken-roti – yeh toh main bhul nahi sakta. Woh swaad aaj tak kahin nahi mila, maybe woh student life thi toh sab kuch amrit jaisa lagta tha."
