They portrayed the quintessential middle-class couple in some very popular 70s films such as 'Chit Chor' and 'Gharaonda'. Amol Palekar as the bumbling everyman, often struggling just to make his presence felt, and
Zarina Wahab, the girl next door who bowled him over with her natural charm and beauty.
Not only did they complement each other, they stood out from some of their larger-than-life contemporaries simply because of the characters they played that enjoyed such an instant connect with the audience.
This photograph captured by ace lensman Jagdish Aurangabadkar in 1977 has costars Zarina and Amol shaking a leg at a party.
Interestingly, Amol seems quite comfortable dancing in a dhoti and kurta, a dress he sported in many of his films. While Zarina Wahab matches steps with him, dressed in western attire, a distinct change from her usual saree-clad avatar, at least in her movies.
