Delhi people are uptight: Russell Peters
He has been doing stand-up comedy for 22 years, but Indo-Canadian comedian Russell Peters says that of all the places he has toured in India, Delhi is the most uptight when it comes to appreciating humour.
He says, “Delhi is the most uptight city. Funnily enough, they don’t like it when I make fun of Bollywood on stage. I do it in Mumbai and there are Bollywood actors and actresses in the audience and they piss themselves laughing.

I do it in Bangalore and they can’t stop laughing. I do it in Delhi and they are stone faced. It’s like I’ve just insulted their mother.” He adds that it’s probably because people in the city are more concerned about what others are thinking of them. He said, “In Delhi, it’s a little bit more about looking over your shoulder and seeing if their neighbour is laughing. If they are laughing, perhaps we can also laugh.” However, he is planning an India tour, and that includes Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The tour is expected to happen in April next year.
In the city to promote his flick “Speedy Singhs”, Peters also told us that he never wants to be part of any Bollywood film, adding, “I have been approached for Bollywood films a couple of times, and every time I have said no. I was desperately hoping that this movie would be nothing like a Bollywood film and after watching the movie I think it is not. There is no dramatic running around trees, etc. I don’t want to be part of any Bollywood film, I’ve never ever watched a Hindi movie.”
However, fans of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aamir Khan are reportedly initiating a move to boycott the film which is currently in the theatres as Russell has ‘insulted’ the actors. The actors too are said to be annoyed with Akshay as the remarks were made by him during the promotion of Akki’s “Speedy Singhs”.
