Delhi High Court concludes proceedings in Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate dispute involving Karisma Kapoor’s children and Priya Kapur, reserves its order

Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband Sunjay Kapur passed away this year in June. Following his untimely and tragic demise, a feud erupted within the family for his estate worth Rs 30,000 crore estate. A plea was filed by Sunjay's children with Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur wherein they alleged that his widow Priya Sachdev Kapur had forged his will. The Delhi High Court has now concluded the proceedings on this case on December 24, however, the court chose to reserve its order.

Samaira and Kiaan approached the court seeking a share in what is estimated to be a Rs 30,000 crore estate. They questioned the authenticity of a will that was allegedly left behind by their father, claiming it may be “forged and fabricated” and even alleging that the signature on the document is not genuine. In their pleadings, they also levelled sharp allegations against Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay’s wife at the time of his death, describing her as an “acute gambler,” accusing her of greed, and likening her to “Cinderella’s stepmother.”

Now as per ANI, although oral arguments in the matter had wrapped up earlier, Justice Jyoti Singh noted that all remaining written submissions from the parties have now been formally taken on record. The court has also made it clear that no further filings will be accepted before it delivers its order.

Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has also challenged the Will, which names Priya as the sole beneficiary of his estate. She told the court that she was never informed about the existence of such a Will during her son’s lifetime and pointed out that the document does not even acknowledge her.

There have also been claims that Priya shifted assets overseas or concealed portions of the estate. Addressing these allegations, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Sachdev, strongly denied the charges and said that a complete list of assets, supported by documents, has already been submitted to the court. He also disputed claims that Sunjay earned Rs 60 crore annually, calling the figure incorrect. On the issue of an alleged Rolex watch owned by Sunjay, Nayar argued that the image cited by the other side was taken from a fake social media account, reiterating that all assets known to Priya have already been disclosed.

Priya’s counsel further submitted that tje corporate decisions taken after Sunjay’s death were based on an email sent from Rani Kapur’s account shortly after his demise. This is an email that Rani later denied authoring. Nayar also rejected the suggestion that the disputed Will was patterned after Priya’s own Will, stating instead that its format closely resembles a Will executed by Rani Kapur in 2024, which is already part of the court record.

Meanwhile, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, who is representing Samaira and Kiaan, argued that the Will contains multiple inconsistencies and raises serious suspicions. He also pressed for an interim injunction to prevent Priya from dealing with or disposing the estate. Rani Kapur’s counsel also had similar concerns and argued that it is unlikely that Sunjay would leave his entire personal estate only to Priya, given his close bonding with his children, mother and wider family.

Earlier, right when Karisma's children had filed this plea in court, a source close to the actress had said, "Karisma Kapoor is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters. She has no claim, nor is she seeking any share in the estate.
