Deepshikha Nagpal admits doing B-grade films damaged her image, lost out on big projects: 'TV helped me establish myself again'
Actress Deepshikha Nagpal, who is known for her powerful roles across film and television, recently reflected on the highs and lows of her career in an interview with Instant Bollywood. When asked if there was a particular role she regretted, Deepshikha responded candidly, saying she never disliked any of her characters, but admitted to making some poor choices in terms of films early on.
“I love all my characters, but I made wrong choices in films”
Deepshikha said she never initially planned on becoming an actress, but once she entered the industry, she embraced it fully. “I love all my characters and roles because I love my work. I came into the industry by default—acting wasn’t my first choice. But once I accepted it, I went all out,” she said.
However, she admitted that she did several B-grade films, particularly with lesser-known productions in the early years of her career, which she now regrets. “I don’t want to name those films—I don’t want to hurt anyone—but at the time, you didn’t know how to choose. There was no Godfather to guide us,” she said.
“Those films had a bad impact on my career”
The actress revealed that some of the films she did never even got released, while others that did had a negative impact on her reputation in the industry. “I was signing big films too, but then suddenly a poster from one of these films came out in Trade Guide. People judged me, assumed I was doing only B-grade movies, and I started getting sidelined. That damaged my image.”
Deepshikha said she even tried to back out of some films when she realized their potential impact. “But I was told it would hurt their film, and I couldn’t back out. So I had no choice.”
“TV helped me rebuild”
With films no longer bringing the opportunities she hoped for, Deepshikha turned to television, at a time when not many film actors were making that move. “I remember feeling frustrated and thinking, what do I do now? So I said, let me try television. It was new then—Doordarshan, Zee TV—and roles were coming to me. Even after doing films, I was one of the few who took up TV, and it helped me establish myself again.”
Deepshikha concluded by emphasizing that everything in life is about choices, whether in relationships, homes, or careers. “Now, I feel having a mentor or Godfather is important. Back then, we didn’t know how much one wrong move could cost us.”
