Deepa Sahi turns director with “Tere Mere Phere”, a romantic comedy/road movie shot in the Himalayas. The film’s trailer, out online, has been seen by 60 lakh people already. Sahi has made the film with Vinay Pathak and Riya Sen, and newcomers Jagrat Desai and Sasha. Says Deepa, “Vinay is the eternal alchemist, turning any scene into fun with his acting.
Riya Sen? She is my perfect pahadi mirch – spunky and irresistible! Newcomers Jagrat Desai and Sasha are like a breath of fresh air!”
The film is a comic take on marriages and warring spouses, with the families on both sides getting involved. So, what was it like shooting a road movie in the Himalayas? Sighs Sahi, “The gorgeous Sangla valley – that is what heaven should look like! And the stark drama of Nako at 14,000 feet takes your breath away. We would shoot till dusk, chill out for an hour, have a picnic-like dinner and then begin our journey onwards, sometimes travelling through the whole night. Even the fear you felt in those torturous paths lit only by the moon was exciting!”
Vinay Pathak insists, “If Deepa had not given me a role in this film, I would have worked as a spot boy. I had to be a part of it.” An Open Door Films release, produced by Ketan Mehta and the singer Anup Jalota, “Tere Mere Phere” releases on September 30.
