In the year 2006 Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra brought about a revolution with his Aamir Khan starrer film Rang De Basanti. Even after 17 years the film is still fresh in everyone’s mind and it is considered a classic of modern Indian history.
But not many are aware that Daniel Craig who went on to become James Bond had auditioned for a role in the film. Rakeysh revealed this news in his autobiography ‘ The Stranger in the Mirror’. He also mentioned that he was considering Daniel for the role of the British Jailer James Mckinley (Sue’s Grandfather) who was given the task of hanging Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
He further added that Daniel had requested for some time as he was also being considered for James Bond’s role and the role finally going to Steven Mackintosh who is known for films like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Underworld: Evolution.
Rang De Basanti had a stellar star cast of R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Kirron Kher, Waheeda Rehman and Alice Patten.The film went on to win many awards and was also nominated for BAFTA awards.
