Chunky Pandey is on a roll as far as acting in films is concerned. But, will he hit a new high?He came. He acted. He disappeared. After starting out promisingly several years ago, Chunky Pandey went through a low. When he re-emerged, his presence was nowhere near as significant as earlier. But, hold on. All may not be over yet. At least, Chunky certainly doesnt think so, as he looks forward to his spate of releases this year.
Sounding most enthusiastic, he talks about what all life has to offer in the coming months, Man, its not just a spell of films. This year is going to be a Chunky festival!
Talking about his forthcoming projects, he comes up with several titles, I have Sankat City by Pankaj Advani, Mukta Arts Paying Guest, Hello Darling which is a sex comedy, and De Dhana Dhan. I am also playing a cameo in my dear friend, Sangeeth Sivans next film and a part in his horror flick, Click. As his forte has been humorous roles, we ask him if his forthcoming films are all comedies. He quips, Not really, Sankat City is more like a comedy of errors. I play a character called Sikandar Khan. Its about the underworld and, if you cannot stand Chunky Pandey, I would have to pay you to watch it, as I have a double role in it. Paying Guest is a film where I play a character who has a speech impediment; whatever he says gets misinterpreted often. In De Dhana Dhan, I had to share screen space with Akshay Kumar and Suneil Shetty, who are fighting fit. So, I had to lose a lot of weight and look a couple of years younger for that role. As far as Click is concerned, its a very slickly packaged horror film. But, otherwise, yes, a lot of my roles are intentionally or unintentionally funny! What about Shantaram where he is rumoured to play a role beside Johnny Depp? He replies, Well, I do not know when and how things will fall into place as far as Shantaram is considered, as it is a massive project. But, as and when that happens, it will be a great film to work on as its a great story. So, what about his role as the drug addict in one of his upcoming films? He is prompt at correcting us, I play a drug pusher not a drug addict! And, I was allowed to decide my own look for the role. So, I created a look like Jim Morrison. In fact, in another role, I do a take on Elvis Presley. It was quite comical the way I dressed up for it. But, Im a funny guy. I hate stereotypes. Even in comic roles, I believe in re-inventing myself. The man does have his own wish as far as playing his dream role is concerned: I have a full mind to play a negative character. We gently remind him of his role in Qayamat. He explains, No, not that kind of negative role. Something that is really, really evil, he grins. Well, we would sure love to see him in that avatar. Till that happens, let us laugh with the man!
