'Chalk N Duster' began over a coffee conversation

While most films are conceptualised with the idea of telling a story, upcoming release 'Chalk N Duster' began over a casual conversation. Director Jayant Gilatar was expressing his views on the current state of education and teachers in a chat over coffee with Amin Surani. The latter, a businessman from Aurangabad, could easily relate to the former���s perspective as he has also been closely associated with educational affairs in his hometown.
Soon the coffee table conversation crystallised into a story that ���needed to be told���. Since the issue was close to his heart, Amin suggested this should be made into a film and that he���d like to produce it. The movie, featuring Shabana Azmi, Juhi Chawla, Divya Dutta, Girish Karnad and Zareena Wahab, releases January 15. The camaraderie between the director and producer helped them develop the story. As the producer puts it, ���I always believe that if cinema can address a social issue, it is not only entertaining, but also meaningful. At Surani Pictures, our idea is to strive to make meaningful cinema.��� Adds the director, ���I am glad that I have a producer who is also a visionary like me. This has helped me make this movie in its true essence.���
