Bollywood celebrities including Vidya Balan, Ali Fazal, Dia Mirza, Sonakshi Sinha, Vir Das and Richa Chadha among others, were a part of a drive spearheaded by
Atul Kasbekar and Manish Mundra, which aims to salute India’s healthcare workers. They sent over 20,000 PPE kits to over 50 hospitals across the country for frontline health workers, who are fighting the war against COVID-19.
In a video, Vidya, Sonakshi, Ali, Dia, cricketer
Harbhajan Singh and commentator Harsha Bhogle sent a thank you message to doctors, who have been bravely working round the clock to ensure nonstop treatment to patients. From KEM and Cama Hospital in Mumbai, the initiative also reached cities such as Hyderabad, Ratnagiri, Lucknow, Pune, Indore, Punjab and Delhi. Dedicating the video to doctors and other officials at the frontline, the actors heralded them as real-time heroes.
Kasbekar said, “While all of us are safe at home during the lockdown, it’s important that we celebrate our doctors and value them for the incredible and strenuous work they have been putting in for over a hundred days now. Our entire perception of heroism has altered in these times. When we started off the initiative, it was the need of the hour. While government officials are doing their best, it is also the duty of citizens to step up in whatever ways they can. A bunch of us came together and Manish has been a big help through the process, guiding us to those in need.”
