Roads across Gurgaon are likely to be deluged on Wednesday with at least 50,000 people expected to attend the premiere of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s ‘MSG-2 The Messenger’, prompting police to issue an advisory asking residents to keep away cars and use public transport for a day to avoid congestion.

The film is a sequel to the controversial ‘MSG: The Messenger’, which was also scheduled to premiere in Gurgaon this January but had its screening called off at the eleventh hour due to lack of permissions.

The city, though, doesn’t need a sequel to what it went through that day —all-round chaos triggered by the influx of thousands of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s fans as traffic was thrown out of gear and the threat of violence hung heavy amid protests against the film by INLD.
This time around, the authorities are better prepared to deal with the deluge. The premiere of ‘MSG-2’, written, directed by and starring Gurmeet Ram Rahim, has been organized at Leisure Valley Park and will start at 6pm. Police, however, expect people to start arriving in Gurgaon as early as 11am. They will be allowed to enter the venue 1pm onwards.
For daily commuters, it would be wise to avoid the Leisure Valley Park area, especially in the afternoon and evening. The areas likely to see heavy congestion include IFFCO Chowk and Signature Tower crossing on the expressway, HUDA City Centre and Sector 29. A spillover effect could affect traffic on M G Road, Sushant Lok, near Medanta, Sohna Road and Rajiv Chowk.

“Please minimize the use of individual cars to keep the roads congestion free and also avoid travel delays,” read the advisory issued by Gurgaon Police. Police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said, “It’s an advice, not an order. We are not telling people to stay indoors but doing our best to inform people about traffic snarls that may or may not happen so that residents can plan their routes accordingly.”

As many as 1,000 cops from all over the district and a similar number of volunteers from Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s outfit Dera Sacha Sauda will manage traffic. Parking for vehicles that bring people to the premiere has also arranged outside Leisure Valley Park.
But Gurgaon residents who have to suffer traffic jams every day asked how such screenings were allowed on a weekday. “Don’t we have enough traffic issues already that roads will be blocked again?” said a Sector 15 doctor. “I mean even film stars do not block roads. How many times should we bear it in a year? During the last (cancelled) screening, I was stuck in a jam for three hours.”
Alok Puri, a marketing executive in Manesar, added, “It’s OK to organize film shows but they should be done on weekends. How can you expect people not to take their daily routes on a working day?”
