Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia’s superhit film ‘Wanted’ was released 15 years ago on September 18. Producer Boney Kapoor revealed how he visited Salman at midnight to convince him to do the movie, during an appearance on ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11’. Prabhu Deva's film ‘Wanted’ was a significant turning point in Salman Khan's career.
On a special episode of ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11’, Boney Kapoor made an appearance where a participant danced to the ‘Wanted’ song ‘Mera Hi Jalwa’. Following the performance, Boney revealed how difficult it was to persuade Salman Khan to play the lead. He explained that they started working on the script in 2007 with the intention of giving the action genre, which was at the time dominated by family dramas, a new perspective. “I decided to make the film and knew that I wanted to do it with Salman Khan,” Boney said.
Boney Kapoor further added that his team obtained the rights to the Mahesh Babu-starring Telugu movie ‘Pokiri’. He made two attempts to offer the film to Salman Khan, but due to the actor's hectic shooting schedule, he was unable to set up a meeting. “Then on the third day, I went to him and said, Salman, I’ll never come after this. If you don’t like this film, I will never even attempt to offer you another film. You just come and watch this film,” he added.
In ‘Wanted’, Salman Khan played the character of Rajveer Shekhawat, an undercover police officer who goes by the name Radhe. He attempts to accomplish his goal and safeguards Ayesha Takia's character, Jahnvi, his romantic interest. Salman became a well-known action hero in Bollywood after this film. He further worked in action films like Sultan (2016), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Kick (2014), and Dabangg (2010).
