Bollywood classics

. Talking to Bombay Times, he opened up about his fondness towards the 1961 release Gunga Jumna. He says, “Gunga Jumna is a gem in terms of storytelling. It also has memorable performances, both by Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala, who were in their elements. It was also well supported by actors Kanahaiyalal Chaturvedi and Anwar Hussain. It was shot beautifully at a location near Nasik. It amazes me till today how fluent both Dilip Kumar, a Pathan from Peshawar and Vyjayanthimala, a South Indian spoke with ease the Poorvi/Bhojpuri dialect in the film. It has intense emotions, superb music, with choreography, complimenting the rustic environment of the story.” Talking about Guide, he adds, “This is one of the most amazing book adaptations on screen. Everyone knew Dev Anand as the charming and stylish lover boy, but for him to pick a role like this and doing it with flair, established him as a great performer! The mellifluous music by S D Burman, the beauty and honest performance of Waheeda Rehman further gave the film a depth that not many screenplays are able to achieve when adapted from a book. It’s a masterpiece crafted by Vijay Anand much ahead of its time."
