Bollywood too star-centric, feels Bhavesh Mandalia

Bollywood too star-centric, feels Bhavesh Mandalia
Vadodara boy Bhavesh Mandalia, who won the National Award (best adapted screenplay) for co-writing the screenplay of the immensely popular Bollywood flick 'OMG Oh My God!' along with Umesh Shukla feels that Bollywood is too star-centric even today.
He rues, “I feel the industry focuses too much on stars even today. Barring a very few, most of these 100-crore club films hardly need a sensible script. More importance is given to stars instead of the script and very few want to take risks. Unless that changes, I don’t see writers getting their due. The scenario is vastly different in Hollywood. However, thanks to the success of OMG, people at least give me a patient hearing in Mumbai!”
He adds, “There are some genuinely nice people in the industry too. I have always been interested in writing and used to meet Aatish Kapadia (well-known producer) in my early days, who encouraged me a lot. I have written seven plays and once, even Rajkumar Hirani had called me up to say that he liked my writing. I briefly worked as an independent writer for television before OMG happened. Encouragement from such stalwarts is always inspiring.”
