She Was Crowned Miss Young India Before Entering Films

Before becoming a film star, Poonam Dhillon won the Miss Young India title in 1978 at just 16. This beauty pageant victory caught the attention of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, who offered her a role in Trishul (1978), marking the beginning of her acting career. Though her screen time was brief, her charm stood out — and she was soon cast as the lead in Noorie (1979).

Noorie Made Her a Nationwide Star Overnight

Despite being a newcomer, Poonam’s performance in Noorie was so impactful that it earned her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress. The film, made on a modest budget, became a huge box office success and turned her into a household name — all at just 17 years old. Her portrayal of innocence and emotional depth won over audiences across the country.

She Balanced Stardom with Education

She Was One of the First Actresses to Launch a Vanity Van Business

She Entered Politics and Appeared on Reality TV

In 2004, Poonam Dhillon joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became active in politics, contesting elections and participating in party campaigns.
