From Rhea Chakraborty filing for bail to Deepika Padukone’s name ... Read More
Drugs, lawsuits and court cases are all that seems to be doing the rounds in B-town these days. From Rhea Chakraborty filing for bail to Deepika Padukone’s name surfacing in the ongoing drug probe, Richa Chadha taking on Payal Ghosh and more, here are the controversial headlines of the day…

Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik filed their bail applications in Bombay High Court today which will be heard on 23rd September. This came after they completed 14-days in judicial custody. However, a sessions court extended their custody till October 6. Rhea was presented before the judge via video conference. Meanwhile, the AIIMS team re-examining Sushant Singh Rajput’s case and the cause of his death, “postponed” their meeting with the CBI.

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone’s name surfaced in the Narcotics Bureau’s ongoing drug probe. A few drug chats that came under the NCB's scrutiny had mentions of individuals with initials 'D' and 'K'. While D has been identified as Deepika, 'K' is said to be Karishma, who manages the actress. The agency is set to summon Deepika along with Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and other B-town stars to probe their link in the ongoing case.

Richa Chadha claimed that actress Payal Ghosh “refused to take delivery” of a legal notice she sent her on Monday. Chadha’s legal team slapped a notice on Ghosh for dragging her name in a #MeToo allegation she levied against director Anurag Kashyap. But, when members of Richa’s legal team went over to Ghosh’s residence to hand-deliver a hard copy of the notice, she refused to accept it. So the actress sent her a soft copy instead.

We also got some exclusive scoop that all Shah Rukh Khan fans will love. It looks like we may just be treated to double the action with SRK taking on a double role in director Atlee’s next. We hear that Shah Rukh will be playing the role of an investigative officer of a top agency and a most wanted criminal in the film that will revolve around the two characters and their conflicts and confrontation. SRK vs SRK? We’re game for this any time.

Does anyone have any doubt that intoxicating drugs have been a way of life in India for, many centuries? India – under British rule – introduced opium along with other drugs to China and the Chinese in huge numbers became addicts. Before that, important occasions were celebrated by consuming and smoking what is termed as drugs. Our sages also used drugs and even today mendicants and sadhus use drugs. During the ‘60s & ‘70s, the hippy movement and the pop group the ‘Beatles’ made their way to India to savour the excellent quality of drugs called charas and ganja –aka marijuana- openly available in India. After Morocco, Kashmir, Himachal and Nepal grow the excellent quality of charas even in the wild. The ‘golden triangle’ between Myanmar and Thailand is the next source of these drugs. Unfortunately, drugs are now being mass-produced in laboratories as synthetic produce. To avoid addiction to such hard-core drugs, countries and certain states of some countries have taken the initiative to legalize the sale of charas/hashish also known as cannabis in their countries and states. This is for the sole purpose of controlling addiction. Certain derivatives of cannabis such as full-spectrum CBD, cannabidiol, and CBD isolate oil (also available in white powder or crystal form) are now being investigated in the medical field and also being marketed OTC in U.K., Canada etc. I came across an article published in medical journals: ‘Getting High on the Endocannabinoid System’ by Bradley E. Alger, PHD; which gives an interesting introduction into the progress of using cannabis compounds for the treatment of various health issues. It would be of help to various law agencies to study and familiarize themselves in on-going investigations. I will end here with a quote from the article: The endogenous cannabinoid system—named for the plant that led to its discovery—is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. With its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and virtually all of the body’s organs, the endocannabinoids are a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system, we begin to see a mechanism that could connect brain activity and states of physical health and disease. No wonder our astute rishis, munis, and sadhus have ingested and smoked cannabis in its various forms known as charas, ganja and bhang for centuries. A very brave girl also explored the possibilities of its medicinal uses. Unfortunately, others happen to be so ill-informed and bigoted.
