Bobby Deol says watching Ahaan Panday in Saiyaara felt like his own child’s film release: 'I cried so much, I was really happy'
Bobby Deol has shared his emotional reaction to watching Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara, starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Having known Ahaan since his childhood, the Animal star said the film felt deeply personal to him.
In a conversation with Faridoon Shahryar, Bobby recalled seeing a young Ahaan in a Spider-Man costume. “I loved Saiyaara. I was so happy because Ahaan grew up right in front of me. I remember the days when he was little, wearing a Spider-Man outfit, always hitting a punching bag... He’s been energetic since childhood,” Bobby said.
He noted that Ahaan had waited nearly eight years for the film to release. “Even how this film came to him is an amazing story. I was really happy. It felt like my own child’s film had been released, and it became such a big hit. It felt so nice,” he added.
Got emotional while watching the film
Bobby admitted he couldn’t hold back tears while watching the film. “I cried so much while watching that film; it’s such an emotional story. Mohit Suri has done such a great job. Saiyaara is a director’s film, but he got great actors to play the characters. Both Ahaan and Aneet were so interesting to watch. The way Mohit weaved the screenplay, built the story, the music… everything aligned perfectly, and such things happen very rarely,” he shared.
Advice to Ahaan Panday
Revealing the guidance he gave the newcomer, Bobby said, “I only told Ahaan to just be focused and work hard, and to pray, wish, and manifest that he gets characters and projects which are interesting.”
Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara follows the love story of Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a dreamer aspiring to be a singing sensation, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), an aspiring journalist. The film, which released in theatres on July 18, has been praised for its emotional depth and fresh pairing. It has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark globally.
