Bobby Deol says Shekhar Kapur ran away from his debut film 'Barsaat' as he was nervous because of Dharmendra and Sunny Deol's stardom

Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna's 'Barsaat' is one of the most talked about debut movies of star kids. While this on-screen pair looked stunning, their innocence in the film was hard to miss. Not to mention, the songs of 'Barsaat' continue to remain love melodies even today. Did you know that 'Barsaat' was earlier going to be directed by Shekhar Kapur of 'Mr India' fame?

The 'Animal' actor made that revelation on 'The Great Indian Kapil Show'. Kapil Sharma jokingly asked Bobby if his first director was scared to launch him because he was Dharmendra's son and Sunny's brother. While Dharmendra's stardom and popularity remains unparalleled till date, Sunny enjoyed his own share of stardom with his unique personality and choice of movies. Reacting to it, Bobby said, "Maybe that’s why Shekhar Kapur ran away, he was scared. Raj (Rajkumar Santoshi) directed me later. But I never thought that I was under pressure. Papa means everything to me. He is a legend. Bhaiya is a superstar."

Though, earlier, Bobby had said that Kapur had left 'Barsaat' for 'Bandit Queen' after 27 days of shooting. Later, director Rajkumar Santoshi took over.

On the show, Bobby also spoke about the wonderful 2023 which the Deols had. Sunny had a blockbuster in the form of 'Gadar 2' while Bobby got immense love for 'Animal'. Reflecting on it, Bobby said, "I am happy about the fact that bhaiya waited 22 years after Gadar and in the same year, first papa’s film released and the role he played, if anyone else had played that role, it wouldn’t have been as much fun. And then my film was released, that was also a big hit. I am happy about the fact that whenever I see my father, I see happiness in his eyes. When I went home after a week, papa was always on Instagram. He said, ‘Bob, people are crazy about you.’” I said, ‘Papa, I am your son, why wouldn’t they be crazy about me?’
