Bobby Deol on working with Sandeep Reddy Vanga: Actor refuses debate on his films; Says art and artist are separate

Bobby Deol, who made a memorable comeback with 'Animal' and is currently getting praises for his role in Aryan Khan's debut series ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’, recently opened up about his admiration for director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

While the filmmaker has often been criticized for “glorifying violence” and promoting “toxic masculinity” through films like 'Kabir Singh', 'Arjun Reddy', and 'Animal', Bobby chose not to enter the debate.

In a conversation with Raj Shamani, the actor shared, “For me, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, I loved his films. I love his work. No matter, there’s a lot of debate about what kind of movies he makes, I don’t want to get into that. For me, I don’t think about all these things.”

Separating the artist from the art

Bobby emphasized that when he chooses a project, he focuses on the substance of his role, not the public perception of the filmmaker.

Bobby said that it’s an entertainment business and he thinks about the characters he will play. "Unless they don’t have substance, they don’t motivate me. For me, I love the way Sandeep Reddy Vanga brings out the other side of every character—every good has bad in it, but he brings out those grey shades in a commercial way,” he explained. The actor added that Vanga’s ability to explore the unseen sides of human nature drew him to Animal, and that receiving the offer directly from the director was “the biggest moment.”
