BMC cracks down on Dhurandhar 2 shoot after safety violations

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a show-cause notice to Aditya and Lokesh Dhar’s production house B62 Studios along with two other individuals (Komal Pokhriyal and Nasir Khan) associated with the project for safety violations on Dhurandhar 2 set this month. The production house has reportedly also been penalised for filming on a building terrace and for using two generator vans. The action could even result in blacklisting of the studio, preventing it from obtaining shooting permissions in Mumbai.

A source told BT, “Their permissions were in place, but they violated the police department’s undertakings which prohibited the use of gas cylinders, crackers and flammable materials. They were well aware of these safety measures. They were granted permission to shoot in Mumbai around older buildings on the condition that they will adhere to it. They assured the BMC that they will follow the rules but violated them instead. Now B62 Studios and two others have been blacklisted from submitting applications for filming permissions in the city. The BMC will inform the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited regarding the same."

Bhushan Gagrani, Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) exclusively told Bombay Times, “This issue is at the ward level, but I can tell you that show-cause notice has been issued to the concerned parties. The studio cannot be blacklisted yet unless we hear their side of the story, so they are in talks with the BMC. We are proud of the film and entertainment industry that resides in Mumbai and we want to see them flourish, but not at the cost of the safety of our citizens. Tomorrow if something goes wrong, Mumbai police and the BMC will be held accountable, so we need to take these precautions. I am positive that this will be resolved. We want films to be shot across Mumbai provided the safety measures are in place.”

Will this disrupt Dhurandhar 2 additional filming?

Those unaware, Dhurandhar was shot at one go and split in two parts after its making to do justice to its scale so the portions that are being shot are just additional filming or reshoots. A source revealed, “Even if the production house is blacklisted someone else can apply on their behalf and can get permission so it won’t affect the shoot per se.”
