Band Baaja Baaraat

Before Ranveer Singh became a household name, Band Baaja Baaraat was said to be first offered to Ranbir Kapoor. He turned it down, and the role went to a then-unknown Ranveer Singh, who delivered a breakthrough performance. The film not only launched Ranveer’s career but also became one of the most loved rom-coms of its time.

Dil Dhadakne Do

Ranbir was initially in talks to play Kabir Mehra, a key part of Zoya Akhtar’s multi-starrer family drama. Unfortunately, dates didn’t work out, and the role was eventually played by Ranveer Singh. The film went on to charm audiences with its fresh narrative on family complexities, leaving many to wonder what Ranbir would have brought to the table.

2 States

Based on Chetan Bhagat’s popular novel, 2 States was reportedly offered to Ranbir. He opted out, and Arjun Kapoor stepped in to play Krish Malhotra. The film struck a chord with young audiences and became a major commercial success, pairing Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in a memorable love story.

4/5

Gully Boy

Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy was another project that landed on Ranbir’s desk. He was offered the lead role of Murad, but he reportedly declined, possibly to avoid direct comparisons with Ranveer Singh, who had already made the role his own in Zoya’s vision. The film became a cultural moment, earning critical acclaim and representing India at the Oscars.

5/5

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Ranbir Kapoor was reportedly approached to play Arjun Saluja in this celebrated road-trip film. Due to scheduling conflicts or creative reasons, he chose to walk away. The role eventually went to Hrithik Roshan, and the film turned into a generational favourite, loved for its life lessons, soul-stirring visuals, and unforgettable friendships.
