Birthday boy Aditya Roy Kapur’s role in THIS film was first offered to Ranbir Kapoor

Aditya Roy Kapoor (ARK) officially made his debut in Vipul Shah’s London Dreams in 2009 where he played a Pakistani musician. But it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish which brought ARK, who celebrates his birthday today, into public attention. He played a magician and he had his heart so set on the role that he actually learnt some magic tricks to impress Bhansali.



That the role went to ARK is entirely a sleight of fate. The role of the magician in Guzaarish was actually earmarked for Ranbir Kapoor. After doing Saawariya with Bhansali, Ranbir didn’t want to do a second lead in a Hrithik Roshan film. That’s how ARK finally got the role in Guzaarish.



Interestingly Aditya went on to play second lead to Ranbir in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. There was widespread apprehension in the market that Aditya wouldn’t be accepted as the lead in Aashiqui 2, which he was shooting simultaneously. However no such hurdles came in ARK’s way.
