Bhumi Pednekar: Collateral damages can be very high when something unprecedented happens

Read on

Bhumi Pednekar has been battling for

climate change

and nature conservation for a year using her social media page and by engaging in on-ground activities, gradually increasing the intensity of her efforts. The actress, who initially faced a lot of critical commentary on her posts about nature and environmental concerns, is well on her way to complete a year of her efforts in this direction.

The actress’ #climatewarrior was one of those trending subjects almost two months ago on World Environment Day and was widely promoted by her colleagues and industry seniors. Those who have been closely following her social media handles would also know that she hosts an episodic-talk show in which she periodically interviews climate and nature warriors who have done some significant work in this space.

Talking about it, Bhumi told BT, “I have been doing it for my Instagram page for some time now. The idea is to speak to someone different each time - someone who has been rallying for climate change and conservation, someone who has a body of work in this space to show to the world and talk about it. I put it up for people to see and understand what we have done to our planet and how we can save whatever is left of it. Climate and nature can’t be messed with. If we don’t realise what has happened, how will we correct what we can correct? We feel we are invincible and we will always have a way out. There are issues that can’t be quantified and may sound like conceptual things. Like when a film

Contagion

was released a while ago, it spoke of an issue similar to what we are facing. Everyone thought it's just an idea and if something were to happen, we would be able to handle it but that’s not always the case. Collateral damages can be very high when something unprecedented happens. Climatic changes can’t be reversed. The idea is to make people aware of the dangers that may lie ahead if they don’t watch their step today.”
