mumbai: film financier bharat shah of the controversial movie chori chori chupke chupke throws a new googly. according to him, certain television channels are responsible for maligning his image. "my channel (b4u) has, in a short span of time, come up so much, and these people can't bear that," says shah to priya tendulkar on a talk show, to be telecast this sunday, which focuses on the chori chori chupke chupke controversy.
bharat shah, who has been questioned by mumbai police in connection with the arrest of producer nazim rizvi, blames the media, particularly certain television news channels which, he says, sent the wrong signals. producer-directors mahesh bhatt and pahlaj nihalani, on the panel of the show, defend shah, urging the mumbai police and the state government to abstain from tarnishing his reputation. pahlaj nihalani asserts that there are certain persons within the industry and also in the police force who provide information to the underworld. however, nihalani, in the same vein, appreciates the mumbai police and their networking, crediting them with having almost saved his life once. police commissioner m n singh, who was also interviewed for this episode, explains the helplessness of the police force when the industry people confide in them privately but refuse to say anything officially. interestingly, singh also says, "i am aware of the people connected with the underworld. it is only due to lack of evidence that i am quiet."
