Bappi Lahiri funeral, LIVE updates: 'Disco King' laid to rest; family members break down

Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri, who popularised disco music in Indian cinema in the 80s and 90s, died on Tuesday night, following multiple health issues. He was 69. "Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight," Dr Deepak Namjoshi, told PTI. The last rites and cremation are currently taking place in Vile Parle crematorium, in Mumbai.

I used to live 5 minutes away from Bappi Lahiri's place. As a kid, when we used to walk past his building, we would get to hear his tabla and singing riyaz. I've had a lifelong association with him and his music. Bappi da is immortal and will always remain immortal for us.

Even though Lahiri followed Presley for the image-building department, he didn’t not want others to copy his look. Hence, he had a trademark registered on his ensemble. Speaking about the same, the ‘Chalte Chalte’ singer shared, that since many people began copying his signature look, especially functions; hence he felt the need to trademark his get-up, because all those chains have been the result of his hard work.
