And now Sharma is gearing up for yet another movie; this time it is based on the game of football. Ajay Devgn has been roped in for the sports drama, where he will play the role of

Syed Abdul Rahim

— who coached Team India to victory at the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962.

Talking about the casting of this film, Sharma said that he sees a lot of Rahim’s persona in the superstar. Sharma told a tabloid that through ‘Maidaan’ he is trying to tell the story of an honest man, who was once an underdog but still managed to take Indian football to the next level. He believes that Ajay Devgn’s journey in the business of cinema is similar to Rahim’s.

Sharma went on to add that Ajay Devgn emotes through his eyes and that is something that his vision of Rahim’s character demands on screen.

For the uninitiated, ‘Maidaan’ will chronicle the journey of Rahim and how the overall Indian football scenario flourished from 1900 to 1960, in which the coach had a major contribution to play.
