It’s the season of remakes and a Malayalam hit, Manichitrakalam which has been remade in Hindi as Bhool Bhulaiyya and joined the list of blockbusters of 2007.
BT asked celebs in namma Bengaluru to pick their favourite Kannada films which they’d like to see remade in Bollywood!
Indrajit Lankesh: I would love to see Nagarahaavu and Ranganayaki to be remade in Bollywood.
1x1 polls
Vishnuvardhan’s role in the film is spoken about till today; so whoever does it in Bollywood is sure to win an award.
Ranganayaki was immortalised by Arati who played the female protagonist in the film. So I think someone like Tabu would be awesome in that character. The film can also have a stellar cast.
SHARMILA MANDRE:
As a kid, I watched this movie called Bandhana over ten times. It’s a film that stars Suhasini, Jai Jagdish and Vishnuvardhan and is a triangular love story.
Now that’s a favourite genre in Hindi films, so this has the potential to become a big hit. Then there’s another cute film called Neenu Nakkare Haalu Sakkare. The way it was made was very different from the rest of the Kannada films, so Bollywood will have a fresh script if they make this flick.

PUJA GANDHI:
I want it to be Mungaru Male and Duniya. Mungaru Male has a very strong content and Bollywood can introduce all their commercial elements which they’re so fond of, and turn it in to a blockbuster.
Duniya is a very realistic film and that’s another favourite genre among filmmakers. And if they really choose to make these films, then I’d want Akshay Kumar and me to do Mungaru Male and Duniya, I’d like to do with Shah Rukh Khan!
PREM:
I don’t endorse remakes in Kannada, but if somebody wants to remake our films, I’ll be thrilled. Kasturi Nivasa is one film which deserves to be made in Hindi — it has great human values and deals with relationships. Amitabh Bachchan, SRK or Aamir would be ideal choices. Another one is Gejje Pooje — it’s a female oriented film and I see only Rekha doing it.
JENNIFER KOTWAL:
I wouldn’t even think twice, it’s got to be Jogi. But the script should be handled by a sensible director because the subject is very sensitive. Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek should play the mother and son which has been portrayed by Shivanna and Arundhati Nag in Kannada. This one will be one tear-jerking hit in B-town.
