Artistes and filmmakers in city should be professional: Sachin Shinde

Drawn towards theatre and acting since the age of 12, renowned Marathi director Sachin Shinde initially wanted to become an actor but gradually realized that he was better being a director. Shinde worked for nearly two decades with city-based director late Raju Patil and acted in 15-20 Marathi film,s including 'Khandobacha Navana,' 'Vasudev Balwant Phadke', 'Umraan' and 'Maitra Jivache' (with singer Lata Mangeshkar and musician Hridaynath Mangeshkar).
Shinde has acted in 25-26 plays and 60-70 one-act plays, directed three films till date and is at present working on two more. In an interview with Sumita Sarkar, the nominee for the state government's award for drama and recipient of several awards shares his passion about direction and his plans about Nashik. Excerpts:
Tell us about you entered this field
I started developing a liking for theatre when I was in Class VII and gradually began acting in theatre. But over a period of time, I realised that I was better in direction. And I gradually shifted to direction
What do you like about Nashik?
This city has good potential for film making. The next few years are the golden era for the city as many artistes have been getting the opportunity to showcase their talents. We have seen them in recent Hindi films like Bullet Raja, PK and Shamitabh. Many city artistes have created a niche for themselves in television serials. Nashik has talent. Good budget films with good artistes are possible. Even Hindi filmmakers are looking up to Nashik.
What do you dislike about Nashik?
People are not professional while making budget. That is why the budget escalates and financers refuse to invest. Many young people make short films with cameras that are available. I would advise them to take professional training in filmmaking. Filmmakers in the city should give opportunity to the local artistes. Besides, those interested in films should also look at behind-the-scene jobs.
What are you doing to overcome this lacuna?
I am creating a bank of artistes in Nashik for all kinds of manpower related to film making.A lot of employment can be generated this way.. I am also trying to bring people to the city for filmmaking.
