Arshad Warsi is spilling the tea on his early years in the film industry and the behaviour that landed him in hot water with veteran star Jaya Bachchan. The actor, who got candid about his career in films, highlighted that frankness is often not well-received in the industry. Warsi, who started his career with the 1996 film 'Tere Mere Sapne', noted that his unfiltered behaviour was not appreciated and underscored the industry's sensitivity to directness.
In a recent chat with Samdish Bhatia on his YouTube channel, Arshad Warsi shared a humorous story about getting scolded by Jaya for his airport attire. Warsi recounted, “I was new in the film industry and my knowledge was zero. I came from a different world. During my first film, Tere Mere Sapne, we had to go to Hyderabad to shoot and I sat in the flight wearing chaddi and baniyan. Pehle toh vaise he ghoomte thay dance-vanse karte thay (We used to wear such clothes earlier. We were dancers). When Jaya ji got to know about this, I received a message, ‘Please tell Mr Warsi to dress appropriately while traveling.'”
The actor also recounted a time when his candid opinion displeased Jaya. He shared, “Then once Jaya ji called me for a film. They used to call people to get their opinion. She asked me, ‘Kaise lagi? (How did you find it?)’ I responded, ‘Bakwas.’ She took me to the corner and said, ‘Keep your opinion to yourself.’ These are lessons learnt.”
Warsi also discussed the ‘yes man’ culture in Bollywood, stating. “Sach toh bolna he nahi hai doesn’t matter how bad is the film,” he said.
On the work front, Arshad recently starred in 'Bachchhan Paandey' with Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon. He has 'Welcome to the Jungle' and 'Jolly LLB 3' lined up for future releases.
