Between Saturday evening and Sunday morning in Delhi, Arjun Kapoor trimmed his hair, it seems. He also put on a pair of spectacles and acquired a bag to look like a regular, urban guy when he started shooting for the Delhi schedule of '2 States' in Connaught Place early yesterday morning. The film, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book of the same name, is being directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala.
Arjun, of course, plays Krish, the central character.
Krish is from Delhi, and those are the sequences Arjun is shooting here. In an interview he gave to TOI when he landed in Delhi on Saturday, Arjun said, “We’re shooting my house – I belong to Delhi in the film; I’ve been born and brought up here, even though I’m studying in Ahmedabad." “This is the chapter where we introduce my family in Delhi, and where she (Alia, who plays his girlfriend, a South Indian girl) comes to Delhi. Also, there’s an interesting episode where I meet a prospective bride – my mother fixes me up with a girl called Dolly.” That’s one of scenes they’d planned to shoot on Sunday.
On Sunday, shooting started a little after dawn to avoid attention. Arjun shot a scene in which he tries to cross the road, but sits on the pavement, thinking about something. They had also set up a sort of book market on the pavements in CP for another scene.
This is the first time Arjun is doing a film in which he’s not playing a violent young man or someone operating on the fringes of the law. Said Arjun, “I’ve never played a contemporary boy – I’ve been either gun-toting or guns have been around me. But this is a character I relate to personally – he’s not a geek, but when he falls in love, he becomes this very goofy guy from this very assured human being. In that sense, the love story appealed to me, the fact that I’m not playing this cocky, suave guy. It’s one of the closest characters to me that I’ve chosen. This is something I could really relate to. My family is Punjabi, so I know this stereotypical thought process exists – ‘
Achha, tu Gujarati se pyaar karta hai?
Teri GF Punjabi
nahin hai?’”
