AR Rahman issues legal notice against baseless rumours and defamatory content following divorce announcement with Saira Banu

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has issued a strongly worded legal notice addressing defamatory content circulating on social media following his recent announcement regarding the dissolution of his marriage with Saira Banu.

In a heartfelt post on Twitter on November 19, 2024, Rahman shared the news with his followers, expressing the emotional weight of the decision, "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. The announcement, accompanied by a joint statement from the couple citing emotional strain as the reason for their decision, was widely covered by leading newspapers. It garnered an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers.

Despite the dignified announcement, Rahman has been the target of baseless rumors and defamatory content on various social media platforms and video-sharing sites. According to the legal notice issued on his behalf, these platforms have been flooded with concocted stories and speculative interviews, which have caused harm to his reputation and emotional distress to his family.




The notice categorically refutes all such claims, stating, "There is no iota of truth in any of the programs or interviews attributing obscene content. Such stories are the product of content-starved creators seeking short-lived publicity."

Rahman’s legal team has demanded the immediate removal of all objectionable content from platforms including YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook, and other online portals. The notice highlights that these actions violate the norms of respectful content creation and abuse prevention as outlined by platform guidelines.



In a subsequent post on X, Rahman expressed his disappointment with the rise of defamatory narratives, "Notice to all slanderers from ARR's Legal Team," he wrote, reiterating his commitment to safeguarding his reputation and the dignity of his family.



AR Rahman and Saira Banu decided to part ways after being married for nearly three decades. The couple, who married in 1995, are parents to three children - daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen.
