Anurag Kashyap takes a break post his split with the Phantom boys

Early today morning, Anurag Kashyap and

Madhu Mantena

took to social media to announce that their pet project,

Phantom Films

, was winding up business. Anurag, in an emotional tone, wrote, “Phantom was a dream, a glorious one and all dreams come to an end. We did our best and we succeeded and we failed. But I know for sure we will come out of this stronger, wiser and will continue to pursue our dreams our own individual ways. We wish each other the best.”

Madhu added, “Want to announce that Anurag, Vikas, Vikram and I have decided to dissolve our partnership in Phantom and go our separate ways. We had a glorious run for seven years and I guess sometimes even marriages end. I personally believe that Phantom is the best thing that happened to me in my producing career. I want to thank Anurag, Vikram and Vikas for being great partners, mentors and for holding my hand patiently during my dark times. Hope to continue to be friends and may even collaborate on individual films in the future. We wish each other the best.”

The cracks in what was termed as one of the most popular Bollywood friendships of recent times became evident 18 months ago when Vikas Bahl was accused of sexual misconduct by a female employee of their company. While speaking about Vikas, Anurag had told Bombay Times a few weeks ago that his former friend and he have not been on talking terms and that they work from separate premises although they are still part of Phantom Films. Without putting it in words, the filmmaker had made it amply clear that all was not well between his friends and him.

Today, when E-Times reached out to him and asked if he was okay, given that he was invested into the company, Anurag said, “I am okay. I am just taking a break.”
