Today marks the 20th anniversary of Anubhav Sinha’s action-packed thriller 'Dus', which hit theaters on July 8, 2005. Featuring a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, and Zayed Khan, the film achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success. The project was a significant milestone for Sinha, as it was his first time directing such a high-profile ensemble. Reflecting on two decades since its release, the director expressed his gratitude for the enduring affection the film continues to receive. Although he has since moved away from action and superhero genres, he admits that watching trailers of major action films often tempts him to revisit that thrilling cinematic territory.
Fond Memories and Behind-the-Scenes Praise
The filmmaker recently shared the poster of 'Dus' on social media, reflecting on how the film still receives affection despite him not having watched it in years. He fondly remembered Sanjay Dutt’s words during dubbing. Taking to his X handle, he wrote, “I remember Sanju watched it during dubbing and said, ‘Sinha sahab, your work is done.’ Dus Bahane had already become a massive hit across the country just from the trailer. Vishal-Shekhar had done an outstanding job. Everyone had. The shortcomings — and there were quite a few — were all mine".
A Creative Pull Towards Action and Superhero Genres
Sinha confessed that he’s nearly forgotten his ability to make action and superhero films. He wrote. “Now I’ve almost forgotten that I can make action films. That I can make superhero films. Except for a few actors, no one even talks to me about such films anymore. Though honestly, whenever I watch the trailer of some big film, something inside stirs — should I make one more like that? Then I sit down to write something else. But the heart keeps pulling in that direction. And art comes from the heart".
Dus: A Star-Studded Success with Memorable Music
'Dus', released in 2005, featured a star cast including Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Raima Sen, Esha Deol, and Dia Mirza, and ranked as the tenth highest earner of the year. The story followed seven fictional SIT officers, while its soundtrack, especially tracks like "Dus Bahane and Deedar De", left a lasting impact and continue to be popular today.
